This month Memphizm will feature Com'on BRAaih!!! Com'on BRaih is a poet, spokenword and hip hop artist from Memphis,Tn! He started performing at the tender age of 11 in church. Poems, speeched, and plays groomed him to be an attention grabbing performer. From that point on he was in every school program and anywhere else his gifts were needed.He dud this all while being raised in the heartful but not always friendly environment of South Memphis.Com'on BRaih greatest influenes include Marvin Gaye, Bobby Womack, Johnny Taylor,Frankie Beverly and Maze and throughout his preteens he replayed Bob Marley's Survivor and Legend albums in his head over and over again. This Saturday, 9/18 at Steppin Up Beauty & Barber (4565 Quince Rd) Memphizm hosts "Lyrical Exercise". This is an open mic event featuring INNER CITY SOUTH!

Inner City South (ICS)-a dynamic spoken word and performance art duo who share more than just the love of poetry. Comprised of the husband and wife team Ms. Dee-Lite, a stiletto wearing Diva and feminist whose straight forward style demands the respect of the stage and T-Remedi, an artist and visionary who is a masterful story teller with captivating word play that focuses on change, they both strive to display community, love and unity in their marriage and to the masses.

Come to perform or just listen, either way relax and unwind from the work week with spoken word and art.

Memphizm Poetry Slam, $10 - doors open at 7pm. Each month, poets battle for slam title, trophy and cash prize. Audience members get a chance to participate in raffles. So far, Memphizm has raffled a Flat Screen TV and Blu-Ray player. Enjoy great food, DJ, and poetry!

HARDFACE IS A 2X MEMPHIZM SLAM CHAMP!!!!

Last night it was - Elliott "Hardface" Nelson (April 2010 Slam Winner) who took the June 2010 Memphizm Poetry Slam title, $150 CASH & SLAM TROPHY! He battled 7 other poets, & finally Ms.Dee-lite in the final round! Participating in this month's Slam was Ms. Dee-lite and T-Remedi of Inner City South, The Virghost Poet, Teresa - spoken word artist from Holly Springs, Mista, Poetic High, and FW Love.

We would like to thank everyone who came out to support the art! Guests enjoyed great food and drinks from Zodiac Restaurant & Lounge. A BIG thanks goes to Zodiac Restaurant & Lounge, and judges - including Aiesha Dickey of MODE Boutique & XTC Entertainment Models and also, Southeastern Regional Slam Sponsor & Organizer, Mr. Dewar.

AND THE WINNER IS......................

Ms. Dee-lite, of the dynamic husband and wife duo – INNER CITY SOUTH! She took home the $100 cash prize, trophy, and BRAGGING RIGHTS!

This month’s slam featured fierce competition from: AZ Truly, Seven, T-Remedi, Mister, Poetic Prince, and of course, Hardface. Ms. Dee-lite, along with Mister, Hardface and T-Remedi scored perfect 10's from all 5 judges, but in the end it was only Ms. Dee-lite and Hardface in a lyrical battle for the title!

Opening up our slam and bringing energy to the crowd was 18 year old rapper Tim, aka ROYAL‘T performing “Good Timez”.
