This month Memphizm Poetry Night will be kicked off with a bang! Memphis' own dynamic hip hop group, Focal will be taking the stage!
Hailing from Memphis, Tennessee, Focal blends the soulful sounds of Memphis’ blues and hip hop heritage, creating musical styles and lyrical compositions that encompass the love of artistic creation and musical fusion.
Heavily influenced by their father, a member of the popular band on Stax’s roster, Circle of Fire, and the tragic loss of their father, younger brother, and uncle in a tornado, Focal developed a love for music.
Their current cd, The Last First Album, is cleverly composed to exhibit the group’s ability to deliver some of the fiercest rhymes in Hip-Hop music today. They are currently back in the studio, putting the finishing touches on their upcoming cd, Heirtime, scheduled for an early 2011 release.
Each has their distinct rhyme patterns and perspective, the duo's songs are coherently written as if the verses are one distinct voice. There is no doubt that their musical offerings will stand the test of time, and remain a "focal point" of Hip-Hop music for years to come!!!
