Marc Marcel is one of the world’s most recognized and prolific

 poets of our generation. Born and raised in Baltimore MD,

 diagnosed with Dyslexia at the age of 10, Marc has far exceeded

 the boundaries brought on by his early disability. Not only does

 he travel the world performing Spoken Word, but he is also a

 published Novelist, Producer and Public Speaker. Marc Marcel

 has released 17 spokenword albums,performed in 150+ cities, 4

 countries, 5 nationally televised events, and even for the 2009

This month Memphizm will feature Com'on BRAaih!!! Com'on BRaih is a poet, spokenword and hip hop artist from Memphis,Tn! He started performing at the tender age of 11 in church. Poems, speeched, and plays groomed him to be an attention grabbing performer. From that point on he was in every school program and anywhere else his gifts were needed.He dud this all while being raised in the heartful but not always friendly environment of South Memphis.Com'on BRaih greatest influenes include Marvin Gaye, Bobby Womack, Johnny Taylor,Frankie Beverly and Maze and throughout his preteens he replayed Bob Marley's Survivor and Legend albums in his head over and over again. Christopher D. Sims a.k.a. UniverSouLove is an internationally known poet, spoken word artist, performer, and recording artist. Born and raised in Rockford, IL, Christopher has grown a lot as a writer and artist since he delved into the poetry and spoken word realm in the late 90s.

Sidewalk Cafe, formerly of Memphis, is where he first recited as a spoken word poet. He later became a regular at Precious Cargo where he began to hone is performance talents. He's since returned to Memphis to feature at the Memphis Black Writers & Film Festival.

He's featured as a spoken word artist in Washington, DC, Toronto, Canada, Memphis, TN, Chicago, IL, and New York City. As well as other places. Christopher is one of the country's premier poets and spoken word artists. He's also a community organizer, activist, and an educator who works with youth.

This month Memphizm will feature Natasha Carrizosa!!!Natasha Carrizosa is a mother, a dreamer, and a lover of music and life. She is a poet/spoken word artist who celebrates her dual heritage (African- and Mexican-American) with works that weave an intoxicating blend of cultures, languages and impressions. She has shared the stage with Maya Angelou, Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, E. Lynn Harris and countless other poets, authors, and artists. Her writings have been featured in Rhapsody, Her Mark, and x magazine (United Kingdom.) She is the author of mejiafricana, a spoken word CD and nude – a collection of love and erotic poems. She recently recorded her second spoken word  CD – the dreamcatcher. In 2008 she collaborated with Joaquín Zihuatanejo on of fire and rain  - a spoken word CD that is a testimony of life/love that spans from the barrios of East Dallas to the ghettos of the west indies.  Selections from of fire and rain were published by Poetry in Motion, and organization that promotes the work of young American poets by publishing their work alongside the work of masters from the past on trains, subways, and buses across The United States.  Natasha is the 2010 Austin International Poetry Slam Champion and one of two American poets (Joaquín Zihuatanejo, being the other) chosen to represent The United States at El Proyecto Poesia Slam 2010 in Madrid, Spain.

       Featuring this month will be one of Tallahassee, Florida's finest Salaam Shaheed. Salaam Shaheed is an energetic poet and co-founder of Black-on-Black Rhyme, the nations largest poetry troupe. He has a voice that has captivated audiences for nearly fourteen years. Though smooth and sometimes sultry Salaam possesses a sense of urgency that keeps you wondering what this Florida native revolutionary will say next. As a motivational speaker, Salaam strives to "EduTain" his audiences. He delivers harsh truths laced with plenty of love, encouragement, a dash of humor and southern charm. Along with Salaam will be Black on Black Rhyme veteran 3rd Rail Poet(pictured on the right).

"Lyrical Exercise" feat. ButtaMD!!!


This month Memphizm will feature ButaMD!!! ButtaMD is a refreshing presence in the world of Hip Hop. As her name reveals her lyrics are smooth and prolific, infused with catchy hooks, spoken word and inspirational tunes.

Rhyming since she was twelve years old ButtaMD is a native Memphian whose real name is Margaret Deloach. She has a gospel and freestyling background. ButtaMD is a female lyricist with a passion to uplift and encourage her fans through her various delivery of song. Her dream is to see her music live on through future generations. She builds a platform now that will allow wholesome, smooth Hip Hop to outlast the criticism.

ButtaMD is a 2010 graduate of the University of Memphis. She earned a bachelor degree in Business Music Cum Laude. To her credit ButtaMD placed 3rd and 1st in the University Idol Search (2008 and 2010), and 1st in the Q-Apollo, 2010.

As a writer of all of her own music, ButtaMD also writes for others. She wrote the theme song for a University professor, “The Professor Butler Show”. Before she became ButtaMD, solo artist, she performed as a duo with Nick Black as “Bread and Butta”. As ButtaMD paves a lane as solo artist she is currently working on an EP entitled, “ButtaMD: Only One”. On this work she will showcase her talents in rapping, singing and piano playing.

ButtaMD’s music is for all ages and will often provide an inspirational remedy.
